DPS and Probates
So it’s probate time again and the frats and sororities are starting to show their pledges to the public. So far this semester I’ve been to two probates, and both times DPS shows up. For the first one I went to, DPS just waited in the back and didn’t really say anything to anyone. I can respect that, and I’m guessing that those DPS officers had some idea of what was going on.
Tonight’s probate however was fucking ridiculous, not because of the frat but because of DPS. From the moment I got there DPS cars were driving all over the place trying to see what’s going on. I will admit that a group of 50 people standing in one place is a bit suspicious and I understand that one officer came up to me and asked me what was going on. I explained that it was a probate and he asked if it had to do with fraternities and sororities, with mad attitude. The fact that he asked if it was some how connected with fraternities and sororities means that he had some idea of what was going on. With that said, why is it that he then preceded to ask me if there was going to be any illegal activities going on.
WHAT KIND OF FUCKING QUESTION IS THAT?!? If you know that this is connected with greek life, why would you think that there might be illegal activities going on. No one is acting rowdy, in fact we were all there just waiting patiently texting and calling people to see exactly where the location of it was. I don’t like to pull the race card but it just seems appropriate in this situation.
Now the thing that really pisses me off is that it seems that a group of people who are supposed to protect us on campus don’t have any fucking communication. How are you supposed to protect me in anyway if you’re not communicating. Why is it that some DPS officers know about probates and others don’t? Lack of communication. Why is it that every year there is a story of DPS officers breaking up these probates and the year after they act like they have no idea what’s going on when they see another? Lack of communication. Why is it that an officer actually used his car and led the brothers march in behind him and another came up to me and asked me if there will be illegal activity going on? Lack of communication.
Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems to me that DPS needs to get their shit together and worry about the rapes and shit that happen on campus; rather than breaking up a greek tradition that to my knowledge has never involved violence, drugs, or any other illegal activities.
